James Baraz
has practiced vipassana meditation since 1974 and started the Thursday group in 1980. He is a co-founder
of Spirit Rock Meditation Center
and leads meditation retreats there, as well as nationally and internationally.
Kevin Griffin
has practiced Buddhist meditation since 1980. Trained as a
Community Dharma Leader by the Spirit Rock Teaching Collective,
he has taught meditation in the East Bay since 1996. He is the
author of the book One Breath at a Time: Buddhism and the
Twelve
Steps and teaches workshops nationally on Buddhism and 12
Step recovery.
Bonnie O’Brien Jonsson
has practiced Vipassana since 1993, has lead fifty year-long "A Year To Live" groups since 1998, and teaches workshops called Living Mindfully Now! nationally. She teaches meditation in prison and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction through the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine at UCSF. She is currently writing a book that explores her relationship to death as a guide in living life mindfully.
Richard Shankman
has been a meditator since 1970 and teaches regularly at dharma centers and groups throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. He is active in bringing meditation and dharma to prisons, and is a co-founder of the Sati Center for Buddhist Studies.
Richard is the author of a forthcoming book on samadhi (concentration in meditation) to be published by Shambhala Publications.
